1. Context and Rationale

Media headlines shape how people understand the connection between land, food, and climate — yet these stories are often told through data points, policy language, or market trends, leaving out the lived realities of producers, especially women and small farmers. This hands-on media workshop explores how land and food system issues are framed in mainstream coverage. The workshop invites communicators, journalists, researchers and storytellers to unpack how narratives around land degradation, food security, and climate resilience are constructed — and to explore what gets lost in translation between data, discourse, and the daily news. Through hands-on exercises, the workshop will help participants collectively reimagine headlines and frames that center people and care as much as production and policy.

2. Objectives of the Proposed Session

● To examine how mainstream media currently frames issues of land and food systems

● To identify whose voices, knowledge, and experiences are missing in coverage in region and national media.

● To experiment with reframing the headlines based on the on-ground insights to create people-centered communication.

● To inspire communicators to take forward inclusive and responsible reporting on land and climate
